Autogas helping residents to cheaper motoring

Savvy Stratfordians filling up their cars just once a week with Autogas at Shell Bridgetown since it opened in October 2011 could have already saved enough money to buy more than a months’ worth of shopping for an average family of four.

Typically, running costs on Autogas are around 40 per cent less than petrol, so since it arrived in the town Autogas customers putting just 20 litres into their tank each week could have saved around £420* on their fuel bills compared with filling up with the same amount of petrol.

However, what really puts the cost savings into context is that the money would pay for around six weeks’ worth of food for an average UK household of two adults and two children**, critical in the current economic climate.

At the time of its official opening, Stratford MP Nadhim Zahawi said: “Not only is LPG better for the environment than petrol or diesel, but it is also less expensive per litre which can lead to significant savings and drastically reduce running costs.”

Shell Bridgetown is part of a UK network of Autogas refueling facilities. In total there are currently more than 1,400 LPG refuelling stations in the country, with many more in the pipeline, making it even more readily and easily available.

Paul Oxford, business development manager, Autogas, said: “Motorists running on LPG really do pay significantly less to fill up their vehicles than petrol and diesel drivers, which is particularly important considering the recent record high fuel prices.

“These cost savings really do add up to a considerable amount of money which can be used on other items instead. While food shopping is one of life’s essentials, the money saved could just as easily be put towards something more enjoyable, like a trip to the theatre, a nice meal in one of Stratford’s many fine restaurants or simply a day out with the family to one of the area’s many attractions.”
