Motorist saves small fortune driving on LPG autogas

Computer security consultant Gerald Gorton will save so much money running on autogas LPG that the extra cash in his pocket will actually pay outright for his Mercedes-Benz C180 Kompressor in just a few years.

If that wasn’t impressive enough, by running on LPG Gerald’s previous car, a Mercedes engine Korando SUV, saved him three times the value of the car in the 10 years he owned it.

His C180 was converted to run on autogas LPG in September 2012 by Thirsk-based approved installer Autogas 2000, and with an average annual mileage of 25,000 miles, the vast majority of which is for business, it’s easy to see how the fuel cost savings are so big.

One year on and Gerald’s already covered the cost of his conversion, so every time he fills up now it’s money saved – pure and simple!

And although he’s now an IT specialist, he also has experience working in the automotive sector, so knows first-hand the benefits that autogas LPG offers against petrol or diesel. The cheaper fuel is cleaner burning and emits less CO2 and oxides of nitrogen than petrol or diesel. It also produces 120 times less small particle emissions than diesel vehicles which are related to health effects.

“My job takes me to most parts of the UK hence my mileage is higher than most people’s. In fact, anyone who has an annual mileage of 20,000 miles or more and has a petrol car that they plan to keep for two to three years, should seriously consider converting to the autogas LPG,” said Gerald.

Typically, autogas LPG drivers save up to 40 per cent annually on their fuel bills compared to petrol car owners.

Paul Oxford, business development manager, Autogas Limited, said: “We’ve always known that autogas LPG is incredibly cheap compared to petrol and diesel and Gerald is proof of this.

“So if you fancy driving a car that could potentially pay for itself, let alone the conversion, in just a few years, then make the switch to autogas LPG as soon as possible and start saving every time you fill up.”
